My yoga journey
About Ashtania Yoga
Yoga that flows with you and adapts to you
The name Ashtania Yoga was created from the union two words: Ashtanga and Tania
Ashta signifies eight in Sanskrit (Sanskrit is the classical language of India as well as one of the oldest documented Indo-European languages)
Anga means limbs or steps.
Ashtanga are the eight steps described by Patanjali to achieve enlightenment. Originally the name 'Ashtania Yoga' was created thinking about the Ashtanga Vinyasa style of yoga, since it was thanks to it that I felt in love with yoga, and to be honest at that time I did not know who Patanjali was!!
When I started practicing yoga I was only interested on the asanas (postures). I was amazed at what the human body was capable of doing...After a while a decided to quit a really well paid and stable job to go to India and became a yoga teacher.
Thanks to an injury in my spine that led me to have a disc replacement and a huge personal crisis, I began to focus more on the most therapeutic part of Yoga. I experienced first hand how this discipline helps not only on a physical level but above all on an emotional and personal level.
Over the years I have had the opportunity to train yoga teachers from all over the world on the subjects of: Pranayama, Philosophy, Hatha, Yin, Ashtanga Vinyasa, sequencing, Vinyasa and alignment.
Curiously, I ended up being the one teaching people not only about the Ashtanga Vinyasa style but also about the eight limbs to enlightenment of Patanjali!!!
My desire to facilitate classes that truly shows that yoga is for EVERYONE led me to specialise myself as a adapted yoga teacher (people with functional diversity), restorative yoga and trauma informed yoga.
For the last three years I have been offering in person yoga classes for small groups as well as private sessions. I also offer online classes for people who are not in my present location or those who prefer to practice with me from the tranquility of their home.
I currently live in Vigo where I offer regular classes as well as one on one classes. I also offer a variety of workshops and yoga retreats around the world.

Yoga Styles
Various styles for different types of people
At Ashtania Yoga we believe that each person is unique and has different needs. Everyone and everything is constantly changing and not every day we need the same thing, which is why we offer a wide variety of yoga styles to flow with the change to be able to adapt to the needs of our students at all times.
ADAPTED YOGA
Living with a disability confronts you every day with the challenge of personal improvement. At adapted yoga we work so that all people have the same right to feel good as they are. We believe in diverse bodies, different minds, but with the same heart.
We use yoga as a life tool that makes you feel capable, helps you reconcile with parts of yourself that you had forgotten, and improves your quality of life.
This style of yoga is aimed at both adults and children who cannot follow an ordinary yoga class. We work with people with mild pathologies and injuries and also with people with functional diversity (fibromyalgia, hernias, acquired brain damage, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, mental illness, autism... or any other condition that requires adapted practice).
In the classes, the tools that yoga offers us (pranayamas, asanas, relaxation, mudras and meditations) are adapted, thus making it an accessible practice for everyone.
TRAUMA INFORMED YOGA
Having suffered a difficult experience and not being able to process it properly can cause a certain degree of discomfort to remain within the body indefinitely.
Understanding trauma opens a window to understanding other forms of anxiety.
Anxiety, depression, addictions, difficulty concentrating or addictions are examples of the consequences that trauma can have.
Trauma Sensitive Yoga is a style of yoga created by psychologists and psychiatrists to treat trauma and its consequences.
This methodology is based on scientific evidence to complement traditional therapies related to trauma and other forms of distress.
With information and tools, we reduce stigma and improve people's mental and emotional well-being.
ASHTANGA YOGA
Rigorous style of yoga that follows specific series of postures in a certain order. In this style the movement is accompanied
with the breath and each posture is held for
five breaths.
Recommended for people looking for an style
highly structured and demanding.

YIN YOGA
Yin Yoga is a fusion between yoga and traditional Chinese medicine.
It is a deep and meditative practice that increases your awareness, allows you to feel more subtle sensations, teaching you to relax deeply.
It prepares the mind and body while stimulating the vital energy (Chi) that flows through the fascia in the meridian pathways. Nourish, balance and heal your physical, emotional and mental well-being.
Yin Yoga focuses on recovering and expanding the original range of motion of the connective tissues. In addition, it restores the natural curvature of the spine and extends the overall flexibility of the body.
The postures are held for a longer period of time in order to reach the deep tissues.
To help maintain the asanas, supports such as blocks, bolsters or blankets are used.

PRENATAL YOGA
Yoga is one of the most appropriate exercises to do during pregnancy due to its numerous benefits; helps reduce stress and increases immune function, reduces depressive symptoms during pregnancy, helps reduce pain during childbirth and could even help reduce the likelihood of having a cesarean section, reduces back pain by improving body posture , helps you sleep better (since it is a relaxing activity that reduces feelings of fatigue and stress), and makes you form an even stronger connection with your baby. In turn, by focusing on your breathing you become more aware of your body.
I invite you to try one of my free online classes on YouTube and see the benefits for yourself.
VINYASA YOGA
This style of Yoga is characterized by the coordination of different Asanas with the breathing where postures flow from one to another.
Classes are usually accompanied by music.
If you hate monotony and you are looking for a more fun and physically demanding type of yoga, this is your style.

RESTORATIVE YOGA
Learn the "art of relaxing"
Immerse yourself in a style of yoga that works on both a physical, mental, emotional and energetic level.
Through this style of yoga you will live a truly transformative and beneficial experience.
Restorative yoga explores each person's individual capacity to relax deeply, understand the body and mind more intimately, and thus open the heart more fully to love.
In restorative practice we move through a progressive series of postures using various props to support us.
By receiving the support of these accessories (blankets, pillows, blocks, straps, eye bags, walls and chairs) the body, mind and spirit receive the message to let go of the deep tension they carry within.
YOGA FOR SURFERS
Surfing is an extreme sport that puts the body into a great effort both in terms of resistance and explosiveness. Yoga provides physical and mental balance, corrects imbalances in the body and calms the mind. Therefore, the combination of both methods is increasingly popular.
Among other things, yoga also promotes flexibility and mental strength and, therefore, helps athletes prevent injuries or recover quicker from them and staying calm and being focused in stressful situations such as competitions or unexpected changes at sea.
Through stretching, yoga loosens tense muscles and thus increases the overall performance of the body.
Surfers especially benefit from yoga because they learn to breathe correctly, improve balance, improve paddling power and concentration, helping them feel more confident in changing water conditions.
In addition to these positive preparatory effects, yoga relaxes the lower back, neck and shoulders after surfing.
AERIAL YOGA
This type of Yoga uses a special hammock suspended from the ceiling to perform the
different Asanas thus playing with gravity.
Aerial yoga makes inverted poses more accessible for all levels. There are studies that show that inversions in Aerial Yoga help decompress the vertebrae, relax the muscles of the back and spine, as well as improve herniated discs.
